Motorcycle Covers – Keeping your bike clean and safe

The motorcycle cover started out as tarps to protect from the rain and dirt as your motorcycle languished in the street. Tarpaulin was very effective against the rain and occasional bird droppings. This was the usual material used to cover the motorcycle and some owners even used box cartons. They noticed, though, that the upholstery and finish of their bikes suffered from these kinds of covering.
The first home made motorcycle covers were too airtight that the heat from the motorcycles created a sauna effect when covered immediately after using. So, owners had to wait for sometime before covering newly used their bikes. The moisture from the sauna effect ruined most upholstery and finishes of the motorcycles. Some finishes can be polished back to form but this took time and some even needed professional help.
These days motorcycle covers come in all shapes, sizes and materials. There are plastic, polyurethane and breathable materials which promoted heat loss so that the bike will not be moist come morning. Some manufacturers have even gone out of their way to make virtual garages for the motorcycles, complete with proper ventilation, heat shields and a water proof surface. These are the ultimate covers available for motorcycles. Some are less efficient but more portable and light, therefore making them a better choice when traveling long distances. The lighter choices are thin enough for stashing in the motorcycle bin. Most of these just offer protection from the rays of the sun and dust. These are called bikini tops or shades and offer the lightest protection even compared to the tarps.
Most cover manufacturers also offer fitted motorcycle covers to avoid them flying off the bike. This is a very good especially when the weather is blustery. This helps keep the bike dry and the cover in place. Another good reason why motorcycle covers should be fitted is give people a hard time trying to take a peek at the bike underneath. It also lessens the temptation when robbers are around. Robbers do not like the hassle of peeking under to see if the motorcycle is worth stealing and taking of the fitted cover to steal it. In this regard, the sheep skin motorcycle seat covers proved to be very durable seat cover for motorcycles. It also helps cut down the vibration from the motor and gives you insulation during the hot months and keeps you warm in the winter.
